Who Makes The Best Pickups For A Stratocaster Guitar? by Jim J Ward
Let's start by saying that there's no 'best' as such as the greatness of anything will be the opinion of each individual. Playing style and musical tendencies also come into it as the best Stratocaster pickups for a blues guitar player will be different to that of a metal guitarist. However, there are certain things to bear in mind when evaluating what exactly is great pickup, or maybe when looking to substitute your guitar's stock pickups.
Listed here are 4 factors which may play a part in identifying whether a specific make or model will tick all your boxes. I'm assuming that we are considering conventional single coil guitar pickups rather than a custom humbucker/single coil combination.
1. Do you want high output or normal output pickups? Just how much are you looking to push your amplifier as this will definitely impact your decision? Have a look at the technical specifications supplied by the different makers particularly the DC specs. Additional winds of wire around a pickup bobbin will create a larger DC resistance figure, which broadly equates to higher output. As a rough guideline, a vintage Strat pickup would have a DC resistance of roughly 6K Ohms.

The next best thing is to listen to the sound files offered on the better pickup websites. This isn't entirely suitable but definitely will help.
