good sax songbook?
i need help finding a good sax songbook. i need an alto book with some good solos. i want to find a book that maybe covers solos from billy joel, hall and oates, supertramp, inxs, or anything that fits in that category. i like the sax solos in those older rock/pop songs, i just love the aggresive, loud, screamin rock solos. but i cant find any books with them in it. ive tried music stores that have song books with good hit songs, but the composition is so beginer, it's boring, those books just mimic the lyrics, and if there even is a solo ,they rythym it out. anyone know where i kind find this type of song book? or even a good jazz type book with good rock solos?
What you are looking for rarely exist. Since the solos you hear in recordings are improvised, there are no notes written for them. The soloist just knows what sounds good from previous attempts, duplicates those, and finally chooses a solo they love for the recording. Then, it goes to the manufacturer and that's it. Except in a very few small cases (probably less than 1%) the solos are never transcribed down for a song book. Since most copies (probably over 90%) of sheet music are bought by vocalists, pianists, and guitar players, they don't transcribe the solos. If you want them, you have to transcribe them yourself, or just learn to emulate them. Sorry.
What was the Christmas Songbook they used in the Silver Spoons episode T'was the Night Before Christmas?
I recognized the songbook Edward, Ricky, Kate and friends used when they were going Christmas caroling. I have been looking for this Christmas songbook for years. It has carolers dressed in Victorian garb on the cover standing on the steps of a home. The moon is large on the back cover, with a bare tree, ice skaters, and snow on the ground. The sky looks kind of blue-greenish. We used to sing from this book when I was a kid at Christmastime. Is anybody familiar enough with Christmas music books (from the 80s) to know what book this was?
